Online School for Student Athletes

Serious training and a traditional school calendar rarely fit together. Early practices, travel for competition, and recovery time leave little room for a rigid bell schedule and strict attendance policies. Wellspring Global Academy is a Cognia accredited online K-12 school whose flexible model is built for students whose days are shaped by training and competition, without lowering the academic bar.

Built for How Athletes Actually Live

Wellspring's model works for student-athletes, performers, and families who travel. Scheduling accommodates training, auditions, and appointments without sacrificing academic quality or rigor. The structure gives athletes exactly the kind of flexibility a demanding schedule requires:

  • Asynchronous coursework that can be completed around practices and travel
  • Two to four live sessions a day depending on grade level, with recordings available for any session a student cannot attend
  • Independent work completed on the student's own schedule within weekly progress expectations
  • Rolling admissions, so enrollment can line up with a training or competition season

Time spent on schoolwork generally runs four to six hours a day for middle and high school students, and because so much of that is self-paced, athletes can shift their academic hours around travel days and heavy training blocks.

Academic Rigor That Keeps College Options Open

Flexibility is only valuable if the academics are strong enough to support a student's future. Wellspring's curriculum is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and taught by certified, subject-area teachers. For athletes with college ambitions, advanced options help build a competitive transcript:

  • Advanced Placement courses developed by the College Board and taught by AP-certified teachers
  • Dual Enrollment through accredited college partners, earning high school and college credit at the same time
  • A Cognia accredited diploma recognized by colleges, universities, employers, and licensing bodies

AP students receive structured preparation throughout the year, regular practice with AP-style assessments, and dedicated exam support in the weeks leading up to May testing. Dual Enrollment courses, by contrast, are actual college courses that appear on a college transcript, giving athletes who prefer guaranteed credit an authentic head start.

Accreditation and College Athletic Eligibility

For student-athletes aiming to compete at the collegiate level, academic eligibility is a serious consideration, and accreditation is part of that picture. Cognia accreditation is an important component of the NCAA eligibility review process. The NCAA Eligibility Center, however, evaluates each student individually based on specific coursework, GPA, and test scores. Wellspring strongly encourages student-athletes to connect with their Educational Concierge as early as possible to build a compliant course plan from the start, so eligibility requirements are addressed from the beginning rather than discovered late.

A Concierge Who Manages the Moving Parts

Balancing elite training with coursework takes coordination, and no athlete should have to manage it alone. Every Wellspring family is paired with a dedicated Educational Concierge, included in tuition at no additional cost, who:

  • Designs an academic path around the student's goals and schedule
  • Monitors progress and keeps communication flowing with teachers
  • Supports course selection with college requirements in mind
  • Coordinates tutoring when a student needs extra help in a subject
  • Assists with college applications, transcripts, and scholarship research for high schoolers

The Concierge team is organized by grade band, so the person guiding your student understands exactly where they are, from foundational learning in the younger grades to college planning and graduation requirements in grades 8-12. Your Concierge is reachable by email and phone and prioritizes responding to families within one business day, which helps when a competition schedule shifts at short notice.

Support When a Season Disrupts School

Injuries, intensive training camps, and long competition stretches can knock a student off pace. Wellspring is built to absorb that. Students who need to make up coursework can use the Credit Recovery program, also called the Academic Mastery Program, which is self-paced and focused on genuine mastery. Recovered credits meet the same academic standards as all Wellspring coursework, and the transcript does not distinguish them from regular credits. Students who need extra help in a subject can also draw on teacher office hours, one-on-one sessions, and small group tutorials.

Preparing for Life Beyond Competition

Even dedicated athletes benefit from a path that reaches past their sport. Wellspring's Career-Connected Learning program helps students explore their future through career exploration projects, guest speakers, virtual and in-person internships, mentorships, and industry certification opportunities. For a student weighing whether to pursue athletics professionally, continue in college, or build another career alongside their sport, that exposure helps develop real skills and a clear sense of direction while the academics stay rigorous. Whether a student is headed to a four-year university, a trade program, or their own venture, the program helps them make the most of their high school years.

Staying Connected to a School Community

Training schedules can be isolating, so community is built into the Wellspring experience. Students connect through live sessions, collaborative projects, virtual clubs, student government, advisory groups, and virtual events including lunch bunches, with club options such as debate, creative writing, coding, art, environmental science, and gaming. They are also encouraged to pursue local activities and teams alongside their coursework. Student-athletes find peers who understand a life organized around performance, while keeping one consistent school at the center of it all.

Getting Started Around Your Season

Enrollment is designed to be quick and to fit a competitive calendar:

  1. Submit an inquiry and talk with an admissions specialist about your training schedule.
  2. Complete the enrollment application and submit your documents.
  3. Meet for an admissions consultation and confirm enrollment.
  4. Meet your Educational Concierge, who builds a course plan around your student's commitments.

Most enrollments are completed within three to five business days once all required documents are received. A one-time $50 application fee applies at enrollment and is credited toward your first month's tuition once enrollment is confirmed. Tuition is priced by grade level, with current rates available on the Tuition and Fees page and flexible payment plans available.
